House Call

So my regular readers know that I was a little sick last month. I won't bore you with the details but suffice to day that I had a nasty nasty cold that lasted over a month. I am on my second round of antibiotics and recovering. Considering the grand scheme of things, it is no big deal. I really don't want to share the boring details of my mucus and cough.

What I really want to share with you is the wonderful experience I had with my health insurance. Yes. Wonderful and health insurance in the same sentence.

I've been lucky to work in the high-tech industry and have a very decent health insurance. For years, I've had this thing called the White Glove service. I did not really know what it meant and never bothered to use it.

Then one morning, as I was coughing my lungs out, someone sent me an email about being sick and calling White Glove. That immediately got my attention and I looked into it.

Essentially, my health insurance provided a service that would give me a house call. A nurse or an assistant would come to my house and diagnose me. And give me the meds.

Since this had lasted for over a month, I immediately scheduled an appointment.

And promptly, a nurse came to my house. And he got all these goodies that you see in the photo! A gift for me. There was more stuff but I used it up:) He checked me and gave me more antibiotics. Everything was inflamed and I was not recovering. The best part about the experience? He had all the medications in his car and promptly gave it to me.

To clarify, I am no prescription addict. But it was fabulous to have someone at my house and say, can you give me something for my nose? And my ears? I feel like caterpillars are crawling in my ears constantly. And I take cough suppressants all the time but it is getting worse and worse.

He gave me all kinds of medication to deal with this nasty stuff that I have been dealing with.

And how much did this cost me? 25 dollars. Yep. I could not believe it. I kept saying it was too good to be true. What was the catch?

Reality is that it is super expensive for the health insurance industry for people to go to an actual doctor. There is a huge amount of overhead. The nurses, the overhead, the paperwork, the facilities etc. etc. Health insurance industry finds it much cheaper to have nurses or assistant make house calls. It costs too much to the health insurance industry if I go to a doctor. Why not send someone to my house and give me same/better treatment? Win Win situation baby.

From my perspective, I love it. Anyone who delivers chicken soup when I am sick to my house deserves utmost loyalty.

Now I am off to drink some chicken soup. What are your plans this weekend?

Cold

I know what you are thinking. Where the heck is Scriber?

Well here is the scoop.

Tiger and his peeps keep chasing me at all times trying to persuade me to continue my fling with Tiger. Since I do not want to be the 15th or 16th mistress, I am in hiding. How rude! I should at least be a top 10 mistress. I have standards you know?

To make matters worse, Charlie Sheen suddenly discovered me and now wants to have a "relationship" with me. He keeps chasing me. With a knife.

Le Sigh.

It sucks to be gorgeous. But at least the aliens are leaving me alone.

So anyways...

It has been cold, cold, cold here and everywhere else.

So in this mysterious town that I am hiding in, temperatures are dropping faster than an old woman's boobs. Right now, it is 18 degrees. Holy cow!

The thing about Texans is we don't know how to handle rain or cold. We have jackets. But we usually keep them in our car in winter months. And every year, we buy gloves and hats and safely store them away God knows where because we can never find them when we need them.

So we tend to run a lot. From our home to the car, from our car to the office.... which brings up an important point.

What the heck is wrong with the office building owners? In summer, I have to wear a sweater in the office because it is so so cold. I shiver constantly. In winter, I have to wear layers and shed peel after peel as sweat drips from my body.

What the heck?

But I digress.

How cold is it where you are at? And what are you doing tocope with it? Also, anyone persuing you with a knife? Do tell.

Brr...

The cold front is here! I know that to all of you living up north this may come across as whiny. To them I say, bite me. The high was 86 degrees here 2 days ago!

Typically, I look up the weather predictions on the internet. I hate watching the TV weathermen. They are so darn dramatic!

Rain Event!
Snow Event!
Ice Event!
Tornado Event!
Blah blah blah...

As if I don't have enough drama in my life.

So I just look it up on the internet. Yesterday, I looked at the weather and the highs were supposedly in 70s. And the lows in 40s. So like everyone who lives in Austin, I wore a full sleeve cotton shirt and pants. As opposed to skirts and t-shirts.

What I did not know is that the highs were occurring at 5 AM in the morning. And then the cold front came. I froze my butt off.

This reminds me of the time I went to Paris in January. I thought I was prepared. I had my coat and my gloves and pure wool sweaters which you can never ever wear here in Austin. And Jeans of course. Everyone in Texas knows that Jeans are the way to go when it is freezing cold.

So I trotted around in Paris with my jeans, gloves, coat, and a woolen sweater. Oh yes and a cap. Fifteen minutes of being outside, I had to duck into a store. I was way too cold. After I thawed, I went back to my hotel room and found everything that was warm and put it on.

I had no idea that cold wind can go through your Jeans and freeze your legs. One pair of cheap fleece gloves is just not enough! The cap was just a style thing.

So I donned on my thermals, my fleece pajamas, my Jeans, my 2 woolen sweaters, my monkey cap, my 2 woolen scarves, my 2 pairs of gloves and my overcoat.

I had a hard time buttoning up my overcoat but I managed. I probably looked like a bundle of joy.

But who cared? I was in Paris and I was warm and toasty.

Today I am going to wear layers. If only I could find my woolen clothes!
