I got an award!

Wow. My first one! This is so flattering. That anyone would take a few minutes of their busy lives to read my ramblings is simply humbling. Thank you for visiting and thank you for leaving comments.

Jodi, You rock. You not only bring happiness to my life daily but you have also introduced me to some great blogs. Thank you for giving this award to me! I'll try to do it justice.

The Kreative Blogger Award requires that you list 6 things that make you happy and pass it on to 6 other bloggers.

6 Things that make me happy

1. My husband, The little notes that my husband leaves for me sometimes. He never writes poetry for me but leaves notes like:

~Don't do the dishes! I will do it when I come back.
~There is a chilled glass of wine for you in the fridge. Enjoy!
~Dinner is in the oven. Make sure you finish all the meat.

It took me a while to realize that romance is not about writing poetry or serenading.

2. My sons. I was really flying by the seat of my pants. I have no idea how many mistakes I made. There was no internet back then. Who would have thought that I would end up having these absolutely gorgeous sons who love, love, love their Mom. Just being with them in the same room makes me happy.

3. My friends. The ones who are always there for me through thick and thin. And are not afraid to tell me when I am being totally outrageous. The ones who give me support when I need it and can always make me laugh in my darkest hours.

4. Shopping. New clothes, camera accessories, computer stuff, makeup, blackberry stuff. Shopping just rejuvenates me. I wish I was a professional shopper!

5. Traveling. If I had to live my life all over again, I would take a 2 year break and backpack around the world. Today, there is nothing in the world like traveling for me. I just have to do it. I would love to be a travel journalist.

6. Creativity. Whether it is writing, reading, or taking photos, I am happiest when I am around creative folks doing creative things.

I am working on my blogger awards right now. Will post this as soon as I compile a list. Just wanted to share this with you!

Thank you Jodi! I am honored!

My Divorce Lawyer

One of my husband's old friend is a divorce lawyer. For years, I never met him because he lives in another city. For years, I did not want to because he is a divorce lawyer. I mean what sane wife wants her husband to hang out with a d*i*v*o*r*c*e l*a*w*y*e*r?

I finally met him after years. He came over for dinner when he was in town. He is smooth and charming. And also very funny. I told him that I was skeptical about him being my husband's friend. He told me no problem. All his friend's wives disliked the fact that he is a divorce lawyer.

And then he took my hand, looked me in the eye and said, "Here is the deal. If God forbid something like that ever happens, I'll be on your side. And together, we will beat the pants off your husband."

Did I say that he was charming?

I made him promise that he would be on my side. And told him that we had a verbal agreement. He said absolutely.

Since then, we became friends.

My husband and his friends try to meet once an year in different locations. When my people ask, I always say, "My husband is in Chicago with my divorce lawyer."

That always shocks people.

Ha!

I never miss an opportunity to remind him that he has a verbal agreement with me.

So Mike, if you are reading this, not only do we have a verbal agreement, I hereby declare you as my divorce lawyer in my blogging world.

Just in case I need one.

HOOT

HOOT: Husband Out Of Town

List of things that went wrong while my husband was Out of Town:

Day 1: A baby gecko mysteriously appears in my kitchen sink. I scream, grab a broom and knock on all the neighbor's houses. No one answers. I come home, chug some wine and slam my broom around. The gecko gets trapped in the broom, I scream and run to my backyard. I hurl the broom on to my patio and slam the door. The gecko dashes to the wilderness. I scream. I chug some more wine.

Day 2: In the middle of the night, I hear a thundering noise in my kitchen. I grab a kitchen knife that I keep at my bedside, turn on all the lights and dash downstairs screaming and shouting. Turn on all the lights in the kitchen. The automatic ice machine in my fridge broke and was venomously spitting out ice. At me. I turn off the icemaker. I cuss at the fridge and clean up. No sleep that night.

Day 3: Da flat tire.

Day 4: It is 8:30 in the morning and there are lots of flies mysteriously clinging to the ceiling in my house. Very eerie. Must make some more friends today and move in with them until the husband comes back.

Mid-life crisis

Most men are hit by mid-life crisis. Some take it to the extremes. A shiny red convertible car, a new younger woman or something like that.

Meet my husband's girlfriend:

She flew into our back yard a few years ago. We did not want to capture her but she was landing on dogs and playing with cats. Obviously, she could not survive in the wilderness. So my neighbors caught her and I brought her home.

We called her birdie because we were looking for the owners of the bird and did not want to get emotionally attached to it.

Today, we still call her birdie. And she loves my husband. She thinks she is his girlfriend. She makes me look like I am very low maintainence. My husband has to sit right in front of her or else she throws a temper tantrum.

She hates me with a vengence. I am the other woman. I am the one who makes him disappear. When he goes on business trips, she throws vicious tantrums at me. Grabs her water bowl with her beak and throws it at me. Bites me. Chirps harshly at me.

She never bites him. She coos for him and sings for him.

If my husband leaves the room, she chirps and chirps.

If my husband and I sit down to eat dinner or talk, she chirps and chirps.

She is so jealous of me.

Some days, I ask my husband, "Why couldn't you be like other guys and get a young hot mistress? How am I supposed to compete with a bird?"

And Birdie goes CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP!
